这座位于伦敦西部女王公园(Queen’s Park)附近的19世纪末维多利亚式红砖住宅,建于约1890年代,在系统性的建筑更新过程中,由室内顾问与古董经销商西娅·斯佩克(Thea Speke)全面负责室内设计,使其在新旧交叠中呈现出克制而安定的整体气质。业主为花园设计师玛莎·巴尔弗(Martha Balfour)及其丈夫,在原有建筑条件良好的前提下,与建筑师大卫·莫尔亨(David Morehen)及其事务所莫尔亨建筑事务所(Morehen Architects)合作,完成了阁楼改造、地下室开挖及一层侧向扩建。
This late 19th-century Victorian red-brick house, located near Queens Park in west London, was built around the 1890s. During a systematic architectural renovation, the interior design was comprehensively handled by interior consultant and antique dealer Thea Speke, presenting a restrained and serene overall atmosphere in the interplay of old and new. The owners, garden designer Martha Balfour and her husband, collaborated with architect David Morehen and his firm Morehen Architects to complete the loft conversion, basement excavation, and lateral extension of the ground floor, all while maintaining the good condition of the original building.
斯佩克最初于2021年以“轻介入”的咨询形式加入项目,随着施工推进与家庭结构变化,她逐渐接手完整的室内设计统筹,使新建与既有空间在语言上保持一致。住宅原有比例优雅、层高充裕,她选择尊重原始格局,仅在主卧中加入分隔墙以形成更衣区,其余空间基本维持原状。一层保留双起居室布局,地下一层新增家庭活动室、客房与洗衣空间,阁楼则容纳儿童卧室、浴室与玛莎的工作室。
Speck initially joined the project in 2021 in a light intervention consulting capacity. As construction progressed and the family structure changed, she gradually took over the full interior design coordination, ensuring that the new and existing spaces maintained a consistent language. The original residence had elegant proportions and ample ceiling heights, so she chose to respect the original layout, adding only a partition wall in the master bedroom to create a dressing area, while keeping the rest of the spaces largely intact. The ground floor retained the double living room layout, while the basement level added a family activity room, guest room, and laundry space. The attic accommodated childrens bedrooms, bathrooms, and Marthas studio.
在处理当代建筑介入时,斯佩克刻意削弱其技术感。例如地下室与厨房扩建部分的大面积金属玻璃被风化人字形砖地与再生橡木地板所中和,使空间触感回归温润。厨房成为住宅的核心,其拱形门洞增强了轴线与尺度感,橱柜采用Paint - Paper Library“Stone II”色调,并以Bianco Fantastico大理石收面,储物系统被巧妙隐藏于墙体厚度之中,呈现高度功能化却不显杂乱的状态。
When dealing with the integration of contemporary architecture, Speck deliberately reduced its technical elements. For instance, the large areas of metal glass in the basement and the expanded part of the kitchen were neutralized by weathered herringbone brick flooring and recycled oak wood flooring, restoring a warm and gentle touch to the space. The kitchen became the core of the residence, with its arched doorways enhancing the sense of axis and scale. The cabinets were painted in the Stone II color from the Paint - Paper Library and finished with Bianco Fantastico marble, and the storage system was cleverly hidden within the thickness of the wall, presenting a highly functional yet not messy state.
整体色彩策略趋于柔和与连续,走廊与厨房墙面与橱柜同色,主卧则选用爱德华·布尔默天然涂料(Edward Bulmer Natural Paint)的“Lilac Pink”。斯佩克曾在罗斯·尤尼亚克(Rose Uniacke)工作多年,其对材质与织物的敏感在本案中尤为突出,从薄纱亚麻窗帘到艺术家画布制成的经济型布料,均服务于安静而持久的空间氛围。家具与艺术品多为定制或原有收藏,其中包括艺术家安娜贝尔·高尔特(Annabel Gault)的绘画作品,为住宅注入私人记忆与文化层次。
The overall color scheme tends to be soft and continuous. The walls and cabinets of the corridor and kitchen are the same color as the main bedroom, which uses Edward Bulmer Natural Paints Lilac Pink. Speck worked for many years at Rose Uniacke, and her sensitivity to materials and fabrics is particularly prominent in this project. From sheer linen curtains to economy-grade fabrics made from artists canvases, all serve to create a quiet and lasting spatial atmosphere. Most of the furniture and artworks are custom-made or original collections, including the paintings of artist Annabel Gault, which inject private memories and cultural layers into the residence.
