This historic residence in Kessler Park, Dallas, is a representative work of designer Jessica Maros, who integrates her personal experiences, spatial narratives and historical respect. Born in Vancouver, Maros was once the lead singer of a folk rock band and performed on stage. Later, she turned to space design and collaborated with designer Leanne Ford in Los Angeles, gradually developing a design approach that emphasizes emotions, layers and story-telling.

This residence, which was originally built in 1924, was almost untouched by modernization when it was purchased by her and her husband, Stephen Marley. To update its functions while preserving its historical appearance, they invited architect Fred Peña and builder Paul Zubiate to participate in the renovation together. The deep green exterior paint, the retained copper pipes, and the refinished wooden floors were all completed under the approval of historical preservation, presenting a restrained yet distinct look.

The interior design emphasizes the concept of renewing old things. The original door panels were reinstalled, and the door handles were refreshed with powder coating. The fireplace in the dining room was replaced with micro-cement instead of the irreparable bricks, and an old-fashioned gas heater was reconfigured, paying tribute to the functionality of the past. The lighting fixtures and details are particularly exquisite. The bedside lamp in the bedroom is covered with linen to soften the light, while the dining room lamps are decorated with cobalt blue on a brass base, exuding personality in a subtle way.

Art and natural light are both regarded as important components of the space. The abstract painting hanging in the living room was created by neighbor Pamela Dodd, while the paintings depicting Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller infuse the space with cultural memories of the history of music. With 55 windows introducing abundant natural light, the kitchen hardly requires artificial lighting. Combined with industrial-style lamps and a 12-foot-long island, it forms a highly functional public core of daily life.
