A white bungalow built in 1935 underwent a meticulous renovation by interior designer Holly Beth Potter and her family after nearly a century of weathering the test of time. When they purchased it, the Potter couple promised to preserve the original structure, which was a key factor in convincing the long-time resident previous owner to sell with confidence. The residence is located on a spacious plot surrounded by heritage oak trees in the Rosedale community. The original building has its own unique charm but also presents several challenges for renovation.

为兼顾历史感与现代生活需求，波特与建筑师安妮-劳里·格拉比尔(Annie-Laurie Grabiel)及阿瑟·弗曼(Arthur Furman)展开了为期五年的改造计划。翻新不仅对主屋进行了现代化升级，还在后院增建了一座辅助住宅单元(ADU)，使居住面积几乎翻倍。格拉比尔指出，“我们热爱老房子，但它们并不总能满足现代家庭的生活方式。”因此，团队通过新旧对比，创造出兼具功能性与美感的空间。

To balance the historical feel with the needs of modern life, Porter collaborated with architect Annie-Laurie Grabiel and Arthur Furman on a five-year renovation project. The renovation not only modernized the main house but also added an auxiliary residential unit (ADU) to the backyard, nearly doubling the living area. Grabiel noted, We love old houses, but they often cant fully meet the lifestyle of modern families. Therefore, the team created a space that combines functionality and aesthetics through the contrast of old and new.

室内依然保留白色平房温暖而熟悉的氛围，让人一进门就能感受到岁月沉淀的质感。而现代黑色扩建部分在视觉上延展并呼应老屋，与原建筑形成鲜明而和谐的对比。这种设计既尊重近百年的历史，又赋予住宅灵活而现代的空间感。内部布局经过精心规划，公共区域与私密空间分明，兼顾日常生活的便利与舒适。波特与建筑师团队在施工过程中始终坚持对历史的尊重，使新旧结构在功能与美学上实现自然衔接，呈现出一个既有历史厚重感又充满现代生活气息的住宅空间。

The interior still retains the warm and familiar atmosphere of the white bungalow, allowing one to immediately sense the texture of times accumulation upon entering. The modern black extension visually extends and echoes the old house, creating a sharp and harmonious contrast with the original building. This design respects the nearly 100-year history while giving the residence a flexible and modern sense of space. The interior layout has been meticulously planned, with clear distinctions between public and private areas, balancing the convenience and comfort of daily life. Potter and the architect team have always adhered to respecting the history during the construction process, enabling the old and new structures to seamlessly connect functionally and aesthetically, presenting a residential space with both historical depth and modern living atmosphere.
