This 20th-century 60s two-story residence, renovated by Æ Studio, is located in the lush suburban area of Antwerp, Belgium. While preserving the original architectural structure, the design team reorganized the spatial order and overall atmosphere. Interior designer and co-founder of the studio, Arno Broeckhoven, collaborated closely with an owner who is passionate about art and antique furniture collections, making the residence a contemporary dwelling that embodies the memories of time and aesthetic accumulation.

原住宅因多次改动而形成支离的平面格局与略显冷峻的空间氛围。此次改造首先重构动线逻辑：二层规划为主卧套房以及两间次卧与卫浴空间，强调私密与静谧；一层则整合开放式厨房、餐厅、起居区，并设置兼具办公与品酒功能的多用途空间，使整体布局更契合当代生活方式。

The original residence had undergone numerous renovations, resulting in a fragmented floor plan and a somewhat cold and formal spatial atmosphere. This renovation project began by reconfiguring the flow logic: the second floor was planned as a master bedroom suite along with two secondary bedrooms and bathroom spaces, emphasizing privacy and tranquility; the first floor integrated an open kitchen, dining area, and living area, and also set up a multi-purpose space that combines office and wine-tasting functions, making the overall layout more in line with contemporary lifestyle.

在空间处理上，布鲁克霍芬借鉴汉斯·范·德·兰修士（Dom Hans van der Laan）修道院建筑中关于比例与视线秩序的理念，通过胡桃木书架等界面组织空间层次，营造通透而富有节奏的内部景观，使走廊与公共区域自然衔接、融为一体。光线被视为空间塑造的重要媒介，自然采光与精心布置的人工照明相互配合，强化艺术品的存在感，使氛围在明朗与静谧之间自如转换。

In terms of space design, Broekhofen drew inspiration from the concepts of proportion and visual order in the monastery architecture of Dom Hans van der Laan. He organized the spatial hierarchy through interface elements such as walnut bookshelves, creating a transparent and rhythmically structured interior landscape. The corridors and public areas seamlessly connect and blend together. Light is regarded as an important medium for shaping the space. Natural lighting and carefully arranged artificial lighting cooperate with each other, enhancing the presence of the artworks and enabling the atmosphere to smoothly transition between brightness and tranquility.

在材质与色彩策略上，空间以克制见深度。咖啡棕、琥珀色、刷黑与奶油色构成单色渐层，与天然石材、木材及织物的肌理相互映衬，营造温润且富于触感的背景。黑色灰泥厨房墙面与橡木天花之间形成对比，使空间兼具雕塑感与柔和气息。壁炉嵌入角落，楼梯栏杆以包覆式曲线化解几何的锋利；上层卧室则通过收拢的顶面体量，营造更为亲密的休憩氛围。在克制而不张扬的基调之中，收藏与日常生活成为空间真正的主角。

In terms of material and color strategies, the space achieves depth through restraint. Coffee brown, amber, blackening, and cream color form a monochromatic gradient, complementing the textures of natural stone, wood, and fabric, creating a warm and tactile background. The black stucco kitchen wall contrasts with the oak ceiling, giving the space a sculptural and gentle atmosphere. The fireplace is placed in the corner, and the staircase railing uses a wrapped curve to soften the geometric sharpness; the upper-level bedroom creates a more intimate rest atmosphere through the compact top volume. Within the restrained and non-extravagant tone, collection and daily life become the true protagonists of the space.
