HiAvens 是一座位于英国科茨沃尔德（Cotswolds）的极简主义乡村住宅，由 McLaren Excell 负责建筑设计，BPN 建筑事务所（BPN Architecture）完成建造，景观设计则由 Rosebank 景观事务所（Rosebank Landscaping）承担。项目从一开始便试图跳脱传统乡村住宅开发中“设计—建造—交付”的线性模式，转而探索一种以整体协作为核心的方法论。

HiAvens is a minimalist rural residence located in the Cotswolds, UK. The architectural design was undertaken by McLaren Excell, the construction was carried out by BPN Architecture, and the landscape design was handled by Rosebank Landscaping. From the very beginning, the project aimed to break away from the traditional linear model of design - build - deliver in rural residential development and instead explore a methodology centered on holistic collaboration.

在这一过程中，业主斯图尔特·霍尔特（Stuart Holt）的角色尤为关键。他并非被动的委托人，而是以创意总监的身份深度参与设计与建造全过程。作为 Javelin Block 的董事总经理，霍尔特主动组建并协调建筑、结构、施工与材料等多方团队，使各专业在统一的空间愿景与材料逻辑下协同推进，而非在多重设计立场之间相互消解。

During this process, the role of the owner, Stuart Holt, was particularly crucial. He was not merely a passive client but actively participated in the entire design and construction process as a creative director. As the managing director of Javelin Block, Holt actively organized and coordinated various teams including those for architecture, structure, construction, and materials, enabling each professional to work collaboratively under a unified spatial vision and material logic, rather than mutually undermining each other among multiple design perspectives.

住宅选址于一处曾分布农用建筑的铁质砂岩陡坡之上。建筑没有以凌驾地形的姿态出现，而是顺应并嵌入原有地貌，这一地质条件也成为项目的概念起点。当地铁砂岩所呈现的橙褐色调被直接转化为混凝土配方的一部分，使建筑结构在物理构成与视觉感知层面都与场地产生联系。通过这种方式，建筑并非简单地置入环境，而是在材料层面与地形形成连续。

The residence is located on a steep ironstone slope that once housed agricultural buildings. The buildings do not rise above the terrain but rather conform to and are integrated into the existing landscape. This geological condition serves as the conceptual starting point for the project. The orange-brown hue presented by the local ironstone is directly incorporated into the concrete formula, enabling the architectural structure to establish a connection with the site at both the physical composition and visual perception levels. In this way, the building is not simply placed in the environment but forms a continuous connection with the terrain at the material level.

在室内尺度上，材料的选择与处理进一步强化了这一逻辑。霍尔特与 McLaren Excell 团队曾前往罗马郊外的采石场，亲自挑选六块巨型诺切洞石（Noce Travertine），并通过三维定位规划，将其整体雕刻为厨房岛台、浴室基座等关键构件。木作部分选用欧洲红榆木，洞石表面则采用逆纹切割方式，以突出材料内部的层理与结构。这些表面在光影变化中呈现出与混凝土墙体相似的直接性，使建筑在形式极度克制的同时，仍保有清晰而强烈的触觉体验与物质表达。

At the indoor scale, the selection and treatment of materials further reinforce this logic. Holt and the McLaren Excell team once went to a quarry outside Rome to personally select six large Noce Travertine stones. Through three-dimensional positioning planning, they carved the entire stones into key components such as kitchen islands and bathroom bases. The wooden part was made of European red oak, and the surface of the travertine was cut with an inverted grain method to highlight the layers and structure within the material. These surfaces, under the changes of light and shadow, present a directness similar to that of the concrete walls, allowing the building to maintain a highly restrained form while still retaining a clear and strong tactile experience and material expression.
