The Six Records of the Floating Life states: From the great to the great, we see the small; from the small, we see the great. There is substance in the void, and substance in the void. It may be hidden or exposed, shallow or deep. It is not only the twists and turns of the Zhou dynasty.

SCAVOLINI was founded in 1961 and has been deeply involved in the cabinet industry for 63 years. It is an Italian national treasure level home furnishing brand and has been rated as the most beloved kitchen brand among Italians. It is also synonymous with Italian manufacturing in the world.

In 1984, Scavolini took a leading position in Italy and became the first kitchen furniture manufacturer in Italy, an advantage that has been maintained to this day. At present, there are over 1300 exhibition halls located in major cities around the world. Beijing is one of them.

本案是意大利斯卡沃里尼SCAVOLINI位于北京北四环居然之家国际馆的展厅，能否和其它国家、其它城市有所不同？能否有东方思想的精神？设计师褚荣振想做一个尝试。

This case is about the exhibition hall of SCAVOLINI, Italy, located at the Yizhijia International Pavilion on the North Fourth Ring Road in Beijing. Is it different from other countries and cities? Can there be the spirit of Eastern thought? Designer Chu Rongzhen wants to make an attempt.

Breaking through boundaries

突破界限

园林是中华文化的精华之一，也是中国思想的哲学体现。能否融合中西方文化，突破室内外环境的界限，走出封闭空间带来的局促及压迫感，是首先要思考的问题。

Garden is one of the essence of Chinese culture and the philosophical embodiment of Chinese thought. The first question to consider is whether it is possible to integrate Eastern and Western cultures, break through the boundaries of indoor and outdoor environments, and overcome the sense of confinement and oppression caused by enclosed spaces.

我们设计天窗，模拟自然光，植入花草木石，亲近自然，望能虽为内景，宛若游园。

We design skylights that simulate natural light and incorporate flowers, plants, wood, and stones to get close to nature. Although it is an interior view, it is like a garden.

“造园，如同诗文，必使曲折有法、前后呼应、最忌堆砌、最忌错杂，方称佳构”。

Gardening, like poetry and prose, must be characterized by twists and turns, harmony between front and back, avoidance of stacking, and avoidance of confusion, in order to be called a good structure.

我们把布局分为前厅、中厅、偏厅、和里间。四个区域。期间共展示五套橱柜，一套卫浴柜，配套一个样板区及一间洽谈室。厨电拥有享誉国际的Gaggenau嘉格纳、V-ZUG瑞族、及美诺Miele三个品牌。

We divide the layout into front hall, middle hall, side hall, and inner room. Four regions. During the exhibition, a total of five sets of cabinets, one set of bathroom cabinets, a sample area, and a negotiation room were displayed. Kitchen appliances have three internationally renowned brands: Gaggenau, V-ZUG, and Miele.

Lobby

前厅

主入口虽小而精，指引清晰。次入口遇水而止，可观而不可行。石、水、光、影相互映衬。园之妙处，在于虚实转换，疏密得宜。

The main entrance is small but precise, with clear guidance. The secondary entrance stops when encountering water, which is observable but not feasible. Stone, water, light, and shadow complement each other. The beauty of the garden lies in the transformation between reality and virtuality, with appropriate density.

往里探，视觉落在一众赏石之上，此乃三面汇集之地，亦兼屏障之势。引导性的观看与控制性的行走，角度的改变带来阅读方式的改变。这是时间的转角？为园林言山水事。

Looking inside, the vision falls on a group of ornamental stones, which is a gathering place on three sides and also serves as a barrier. Guided viewing and controlled walking, changes in angle bring about changes in reading methods. Is this the turning point of time? Speak about landscape affairs for the garden.

Middle Hall

中厅

选择黑白金红之颜色强对比，引入上下水，完整的真实体验意式橱柜的内涵，设计天窗，布置菲尼克斯的餐桌，在此实现就餐和聚会的功能。共享前厅的园景，不着一语的观景，更让这个空间轻松惬意，且感受诗意。

Choose black, white, gold, and red colors for strong contrast, introduce plumbing, and fully experience the essence of Italian cabinets. Design skylights and decorate Phoenix dining tables to achieve dining and gathering functions. The shared garden view in the front hall, with unspoken views, makes this space more relaxed and comfortable, and allows for a poetic experience.

Side Hall

偏厅

通过一方玄武岩石叠级而入，形成错层以示区别这仅展示一套的卫浴柜系列。

The bathroom cabinet series, which only displays one set, is differentiated by the layering of a Xuanwu rock.

此间是一处小园景，树、石、沙、苔藓等一片生态祥和。深邃的天景光显得光阴悠长。高两米有余的南天竹已在此生长两年，我们感受了它入秋的深红与花开的芬芳。

This is a small garden landscape, with trees, stones, sand, moss and other ecological elements in harmony. The deep sky light makes time long. The South Sky Bamboo, which is over two meters tall, has been growing here for two years. We can feel its deep red color in autumn and the fragrance of blooming flowers.

一处透窗，有着传统中国园林典型的窗牖，内外灵动，这是花园的妙处，是一个转身后的惊喜，换一种视野观看，物随景迁。

A transparent window with the typical window sill of traditional Chinese gardens, dynamic inside and outside, is the beauty of the garden. It is a surprise after turning around, and when viewed from a different perspective, objects move with the scenery.

里间为洽谈客访之用，内有结构柱，索性再加宽，形成一个微缩小景。委托方与设计方平日都爱饮茶，此里间也作平日茶室之用。

The interior is used for negotiating and visiting guests, and there are structural columns inside. It is suggested to widen them further to form a miniature scenery. Both the client and the designer love to drink tea on weekdays, and this room is also used as a tea room on weekdays.

画家陈春木时隔二十年跨度的两幅不同风格画作，在这个空间相互交融碰撞，亦中亦西。

Two different styles of paintings by painter Chen Chunmu, spanning twenty years, blend and collide in this space, both Chinese and Western.

展厅的核心在于用恰当的手法呈现展示物最理想的状态。再新颖、再有创作冲动也不要忘记我们的职责，设计者要克制自己的表现欲，谦逊的退到身后，就像中国的园林...

The core of the exhibition hall lies in presenting the most ideal state of the displayed objects with appropriate techniques. No matter how innovative or creative we are, we must not forget our responsibility. Designers should restrain their desire to express themselves and humbly step back, just like Chinese gardens
