Uk-based interior Design studio Fettle Design, co-founded by designers Tom Parker - Andy Goodwin, now has offices in London and Los Angeles. They wanted to create a sophisticated space that was functional and aesthetically unique, interpreting the history, culture, environment and spirit of the project site; To provide customers with a full range of integrated services from spatial planning, project feasibility studies to lighting and furniture design.

Fettle Design draws inspiration from the hues of the northern Italian coastline, and the renovated restaurant has been redesigned from the facade to the floor to inject new vitality. Based on a traditional Italian dining space, the restaurant is decorated in shades of green, blue and pink, with elegant interiors that give it a gorgeous modern touch. Custom chandeliers, hangings, wall lamps and desk lamps add a soft touch to the interior, giving it an intimate atmosphere.
将一座爱德华时期的建筑改造成会员俱乐部,借鉴了原本的新巴洛克式风格,并以该地区20世纪50-60年代丰富多彩历史文化作为背景。将不同时代的家具、灯具和配饰结合起来,创造出热情、轻松和具有美感的空间。起居室和书房等休闲区域位于俱乐部的核心区域,采用了大地色调,混合裸露的砖墙和几何图案的地毯,使室内充满温暖感。
Fettle Design has transformed an Edwardian building into a members club, drawing on the original neo-Baroque style and using the regions rich history and culture of the 1950s and 1960s as a backdrop. Furniture, lamps and accessories from different eras are combined to create Spaces that are warm, relaxed and aesthetically pleasing. Lounging areas such as the living room and study are located in the heart of the club and are designed in earth tones, mixed with exposed brick walls and geometrically patterned carpets to create a sense of warmth inside.

San Carlo is a family-owned Italian restaurant group and their new restaurant is located in Isola, one of Londons main shopping districts. Fettle Design draws inspiration from their familys heritage and references Sicilian mansions with shades reminiscent of the islands native fruits to create a distinctive interior environment. Inside, the long, curved bar is the highlight, with pink marble countertops and rattan floors set against yellow polished plaster walls.

The restaurant pays homage to the architecture and heritage of its neighbourhood and conveys a timeless aesthetic that makes it feel as if it has always been there. The interior features rich shades of ochre and royal blue in a traditional British style, with cascading and intricate detailing providing a contemporary feel to the restaurant.Fettle maximised the layout of the restaurant, utilising natural light through the front and rear areas to create two contrasting styles in the same space.

Q1:What does the word Fettle mean and how does it describe your practice?

Tom Parker: It’s an old English word for hand-shaped or crafted. It’s used in a lot of different connotations. For tile makers working with traditional techniques, fettle refers to a certain type of hand-brushed edge that eliminates scratches. In Northern England, you can say that someone or something is in “fine fettle.” For us, however, it really means handmade; a custom and bespoke approach to interior projects. We try to engage every project with a fresh perspective. No two are alike.
Q2:Does this approach carry through to your choice of furnishings?
我们使用的家具和灯具有60%-70%的比重都是为每个项目量身定做的。例如,我们去年完成的Draycott餐厅的每一个物件都是定制的,我们与各种供应商的合作也非常密切。大多数人认为,定制的东西要比市场的贵,但据我们所知,从他们那里定制的产品通常都与市场的价格不相上下。
Tom Parker: 60 to 70% of the furniture and lighting we implement are specific to each project. For example, every element in the Draycott restaurant, we completed last year, is bespoke. We work very closely with suppliers, which allows us to operate this way. Most people think that custom is more expensive than what one can find off the shelf. But what we can get made by our partners often comes to around the same price.
