Everyone will feel comfortable and relaxed when walking into this young couples home on the southwestern edge of central Singapore. Designed by local studio TE-EL, this 108-square-meter apartment is adjacent to Tanglin, a tree-lined residential area lined with low-rise houses and foreign embassies.

The brief of the project is to keep the space minimal and simple-to meet the needs with clean lines and neat beauty. Full-height windows on one side of the apartment allow the spacious open-plan living space to be bathed in natural light.

Our approach is very organic. This stems from the customer’s personality and their need for a large space to accommodate family and friends, Lin explained. We reconfigured the plan to combine the living area, dining room, and cooking area to better meet their needs. .

But the iconic feature of this residence is undoubtedly the cocoon effect of warm lime-based stucco covering the walls, floors and ceilings of the entire apartment. It took six weeks to apply finishes on various surfaces, and the result was a textured monochromatic background that both created a cave-like feeling and emphasized various textures and materials-wood, linen , Wool and stone-surround this characters home.

The overall wall finish makes the apartment feel more spacious, Lin said. The plaster has a handmade texture, reminiscent of pottery, and brings a sense of relaxation to the space.

Some custom-designed works adorn the home and give it extra features. “We worked closely with the local furniture studio Helico to create coffee tables, dining tables and bookshelves,” Lin said. These works are all made of oak, but they are treated differently according to their function.

A custom hand-woven rug with the same color of stucco is fixed in the lounge area, bringing subtle texture contrast and adding a single color scheme.
