CoHousing zero is a building for 12 apartments, built in Pisa, designed by ATIproject. It is a safe, ecological and efficient building that meets the needs of energy efficiency, comfort and sustainability; taking inspiration from the Northern European co-housings. It is a building with high living standards and NZEB energy performance. The entire intervention, starting from the concept development, design and construction, has been an only 18 -month process, a decidedly fast time frame in the Italian building landscape.

The study of the perfect orientation and exposure of the apartments made it possible to maximize the solar gains in winter and to minimize the direct radiation in the summer by limiting the energy requirements. The project was developed favouring the use of natural, recyclable materials with reduced environmental impact. Apart from the concrete ground floor, the entire building is made of cross laminated CLT panels, with dry layered elements for thermo-acoustic insulation and internal divisions. The construction technology has also influenced the choice of the plant system (radiant ceilings for an example) and the installation of the technological elements, placed in the false ceilings. High efficiency fixtures and insulation systems have been applied and the whole building is equipped with building automation systems. The energy requirements are covered by a photovoltaic system and solar thermal collectors. Finally, CoHousing Zero was the winner of the Viessmann design competition (leading company in heating systems).
