The Berkshire Mountain Residence is located in Alford, Massachusetts and was designed by Brooklyn-based Tsao & Mckown architects for an art loving couple

The property’s intricate form derived from the use of the Fibonacci spiral, which helped the architects create a graceful transition between each room

An external envelope made of granite, cedar, slate, zinc and limestone linked the house to the Massachusetts land

The clients wanted a home that would frame their favourite views, so they can relax and take in the stunning scenery

In order to achieve this, the architects aimed to create the ‘optimal arrangement’ for each room, by studying each space's intended function, and relation to light and seasons

The sequence of rooms twists upwards towards the highest point in the house, where there is a cosy relaxation space and two guest bedrooms

The couple requested a property which would ‘rest lightly upon the land.’ The architects worked on a low impact construction and used a palette of local materials that connect the structure with its western Massachusetts setting
