“Living with Timber”住宅改造坐落于伦敦，由 EBBA 工作室主理人本尼·艾伦（Benni Allan）为自己打造，是一处兼具实验精神与生活尺度的私人居所。项目核心围绕木材在当代室内建筑中的结构潜力展开，意在探索这种古老材料在日常空间里的更多可能性。道格拉斯杉被作为主要介质，以大面积覆盖墙面、地面与收纳系统，使整体气质保持统一，同时让木材的触感与纹理成为空间体验中最直接也最具温度的部分。

The “Living with Timber” renovation project is located in London and was created by Benni Allan, founder of EBBA Studio, as a personal residence that balances experimental ambition with everyday livability. At the heart of the project is an exploration of timber’s structural potential within contemporary interiors, along with its broader possibilities in daily spatial use. Douglas fir serves as the primary material, spreading across walls, floors, and built-in storage elements to establish a coherent atmosphere while allowing the wood’s tactile warmth and grain to become a central part of the spatial experience.

艾伦（Allan）将这座住宅视为可不断迭代的“工作现场”，在此进行原型制作、日常使用与审美判断之间的实时尝试。空间既是家，也是展示与实验的平台：收藏、合作作品以及最新的试验模型都能在开放的布局中自由移动。主要的起居区域围绕一件大尺度的木质柜体展开，它巧妙整合了厨房功能，并通过自身的体量化解建筑原本的锐角，使动线更加柔和，整体氛围也显得安静而有序。

Allan conceives the home as a continuously evolving “working site,” where prototyping, daily routines, and aesthetic evaluation unfold in real time. The space functions both as a living environment and as a platform for display and experimentation: collections, collaborative works, and newly developed prototypes can move freely within the open layout. The main living area is organized around a large-scale timber cabinet that integrates the kitchen seamlessly while softening the building’s original angular geometry, resulting in smoother circulation and a calm, ordered atmosphere.

未经修饰的灰泥墙面与持续出现的木材，共同构成一个适合不断叠加新元素的背景。回收材料的使用进一步强化了项目的探索性，其中最具代表性的是来自早期 EBBA 项目的回收桃花心木人字拼地板，不仅为环境增添触摸可感的“材料记忆”，也强调废弃构件在新语境中的价值再生。这种再利用策略呼应工作室长期关注的可持续议题，使材质的层次对比更显鲜明。

Unfinished plaster walls and the constant presence of timber together create a neutral backdrop suited for continuous layering and updates. The use of reclaimed materials reinforces the project’s exploratory nature, most notably through herringbone mahogany flooring salvaged from earlier EBBA works. This element introduces a tangible sense of “material memory” and highlights the renewed value of discarded components within a new context. Such reuse strategies align with the studio’s ongoing commitment to sustainable practices, enriching the material palette with more pronounced contrasts.

空间的连续性通过光线与可调节的界面得到强化。贯通卧室与厨房的通高滑门让自然光在内部自由延展，提升视觉连贯性；而从走廊进入的独立书房则承担材料实验间的角色，堆放着等待被重新定义的废弃部件。定制家具进一步延伸了这一持续创作的叙事，例如工作室自研的堆叠茶几，或是与 Friendly Pressure 与 Our Department 合作开发的道格拉斯杉音箱，共同构建出一个在生活与创作之间不断生成、始终在变化的动态环境。

The coherence between spaces is strengthened through the interplay of light and adjustable spatial interfaces. A full-height sliding door connecting the bedroom and kitchen allows natural light to flow through the interior, enhancing visual continuity. Meanwhile, a separate study accessed from the corridor operates as a workshop for material experimentation, accumulating discarded elements awaiting transformation. Custom-made furniture further extends the narrative of continuous creation—ranging from the studio’s own stacking coffee tables to the Douglas-fir speakers developed in collaboration with Friendly Pressure and Our Department—altogether shaping a dynamic environment where living and making remain in constant dialogue.
