A residence of traditional character in São Paulo, Brazil, designed by local interior designer Gustavo Neves. Ancestors, millennial memories inscribed in the subconscious of peoples, their customs, traditions and knowledge, are features that reproduce themselves in history and manifest themselves in material form as cultural deposits and edges. Culture permeates and organises experience as the guardian and maintainer of the worlds way of being and living in different structures of space and time. This fundamental creativity maintains uniqueness and diversity, shapes human action in the world, reflects human development and freedom and makes culture one of the pillars of sustainable development.

Here Gustavo Neves thinks of the culture that emerges from the traditional wisdom, the knowledge of diversity, technology and the sustainable use of resources, all made possible by creative forces. the spirit of sume, zume or tume arandu, evoked in the name of space, is a mythic presence of the Tupi people, who passed on to the people the use of fire, agriculture and the social organisation of the first technologies to the people who walked the earth.

For this project, Joe Design Studio transformed two separate flats into a luxury penthouse, ensuring a sense of unity throughout the space. Their challenge was to create a minimalist and welcoming design that would be conducive to a serene living atmosphere, while serving as a canvas to showcase the clients extraordinary art collection, ensuring that each piece of artwork received the attention it deserved.
