Vivian Grove住宅改造项目坐落于墨尔本内东区Kew区的林荫街巷间，以艺术化设计唤醒了郊区红砖住宅的潜在价值，整体改造秉持克制原则，通过精细化梳理让原有建筑的价值得到最大化发挥。项目由Cera Stribley工作室打造，创始人多姆·塞兰托尼奥（Dom Cerantonio）认为原建筑的双砖结构、北向庭院与错层规划均为优质基底，同时也正视其空间形式刻板、全屋铺置地毯、室内外联动性弱的时代局限。

The Vivian Grove House renovation project is located in the leafy streets of Kew, an inner-eastern suburb of Melbourne. It has awakened the latent value of the suburban red-brick house through artistic design. The overall renovation adheres to the principle of restraint, maximizing the value of the original building through meticulous refinement. The project was created by Cera Stribley Studio, whose founder, Dom Cerantonio, believes that the double-brick structure, north-facing courtyard, and split-level layout of the original building are all excellent foundations. At the same time, he also acknowledges the limitations of its era, such as the rigid spatial form, carpeting throughout the house, and weak connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

设计团队以轻盈且果断的手法推进改造，保留建筑优势的同时对不合理之处进行精细化重构。空间功能的调整虽幅度不大却极具实用价值，原开放式正式餐厅被围合为灵活的休闲区，可根据居住者需求改造为专属家庭办公区，洗衣房从主卧旁迁至厨房附近，为主卧区释放出更开阔舒适的空间，新增的管家储藏室与化妆间也进一步提升了日常使用的功能性。

The design team advanced the renovation with a light and decisive approach, preserving the buildings advantages while making meticulous reconstructions to the unreasonable aspects. Although the adjustment of spatial functions was not significant, it was highly practical. The original open formal dining room was enclosed to become a flexible leisure area, which could be transformed into a dedicated home office according to the residents needs. The laundry room was moved from beside the master bedroom to near the kitchen, releasing a more spacious and comfortable space for the master bedroom area. The newly added butlers storage room and dressing room further enhanced the functionality of daily use.

材质的升级让建筑贴合当代生活需求，同时保留了空间的温润质感与耐用性。全屋柔软的地毯被替换为更适配成长型家庭的实木地板，平整的白色石膏墙采用微糙质感涂料打造，赋予空间更丰富的层次与触感，老旧的窗户与开窗结构均更换为高性能双层玻璃，全年的居住舒适度与能源利用效率都得到显著提升。

The upgrade of materials makes the building meet the contemporary living needs while retaining the warm texture and durability of the space. The soft carpets throughout the house have been replaced with solid wood floors that are more suitable for growing families. The smooth white gypsum walls are now coated with a slightly rough-textured paint, giving the space a richer layering and touch. The old windows and window structures have all been replaced with high-performance double-glazed glass, significantly improving the comfort of living throughout the year and energy utilization efficiency.

空间的核心设计围绕室内外联动展开，餐厨区的大型推拉门可直接通向静谧的北向庭院，让居住者深度感受户外生活的惬意，建筑空间也能随季节变化实现灵活的开合。建筑外立面的改造同样颇具巧思，原本暗红色的砖墙统一覆盖粗铸混凝土抹灰，弱化了建筑的视觉厚重感，也赋予其更具当代性的触感表达，让这座80年代的红砖住宅拥有了适配现代生活的空间形态与使用体验。

The core design of the space focuses on the interconnection between indoor and outdoor areas. The large sliding doors in the dining and kitchen area directly lead to the quiet north-facing courtyard, allowing residents to deeply experience the comfort of outdoor life. The building space can also be flexibly opened and closed according to seasonal changes. The renovation of the buildings exterior facade is also quite ingenious. The original dark red brick walls were uniformly covered with roughcast concrete plastering, which weakened the visual heaviness of the building and gave it a more contemporary tactile expression. This 1980s red-brick residence now has a spatial form and usage experience that is suitable for modern life.
