De Belder 住宅

House De Belder is located in the Villa Elsdonk area of Wilrijk in Antwerp. The architect Renaat Braem designed the house for Alfons De Belder, a photographer with whom he often collaborates on photographs of his work. As a result, the house contains a spacious photographer/painters studio and a darkroom. The high, asymmetrically designed roof is typical of the street scene and looks a bit like a chapel, but the overall design style is more bungalow-like.

Combining a modern architectural style with a typical 70s style was a fascinating task, and of course the clients wanted to install as much of their own parquet flooring in the house as possible. In the entrance hall, the architects removed the old floor and laid natural stone. The white painted tiles were too much of a contrast to the parquet, so he whitewashed them with clay to soften them. The staircase, a symbol of the interwoven floors, was retained in its original form and a new stair landing was extended from the original staircase to allow access to the new bathroom.

The architectural palette of Echlin gives a sense of tranquillity. Soft, warm whites have been chosen for all walls and ceilings, with complementary finishes in the kitchen and joinery, and light but warm oak flooring throughout. The oak style is continued in the kitchen detailing, full height bespoke wood veneer built-in wardrobes and bookshelves in the bedrooms.

The client is a young man who enjoys cooking and entertaining guests, who appears to be very active in his daily life and is a hard worker. The clients main desire was to have a bright and cosy flat without unnecessary visual noise. His dream also included having a master bathroom accessible from the bedroom, which the design team was able to realise in such a small space.

The main concept of the design was to use a lot of natural materials to create a bright space while highlighting the breathtaking views from the windows.Vita Linder was faced with the task of creating a modern minimalist interior design with Japanese style elements.
