This high-rise residence, located within the iconic Steinway Tower on West 57th Street, known as the "Billionaires Row" in New York, was designed by SHoP Architects with an almost extreme slender proportion that pierces the sky. The interior space was led by designer Sebastian Zuchowicki, who, within the contemporary minimalist context, evokes the historical echoes of Art Deco.

Zuhovitsky, as a member of Studio Sofield, participated in the design of the public space of the Steinway Building, and had a profound understanding of the historical context and spirit of this building. In this project, he created a private residence for a financial professional he had never met. The design was carried out throughout through remote communication, but the final result presented a highly personalized spatial expression. The design inspiration traced back to the 1920s, when the Steinway Hall, designed by the Warren and Wetmore firm, precisely incorporated the aesthetic of the Gilded Age into contemporary lifestyle.

The overall space is centered around a sculptural simplicity and an elegant refinement that has been shaped by time. Venetian plaster walls, custom murals, and integrated soft-padded headboards, among other details, collectively eliminate the sense of emptiness in the newly built high-rise residence, giving the space rich layers and historical depth. In the living room, the landscape of Central Park is embedded in the facade like a frame. The designer drew inspiration from the works of French decorative art designer Paul Dupré-Lafon, using painted palm wood panels to frame the view, responding to the meticulous tradition of the 1930s.

The furniture arrangement does not adhere to the symmetrical order along the axis. Instead, through the imposing volume of sofas and chairs, it breaks the regularity and makes the space more dynamic and full of life. Antique and contemporary works are juxtaposed and conversed here: the classic designs of Jean-Michel Frank and Jacques Adnet, along with the works of contemporary creators such as Max Lamb and Pierre Yovanovitch, create a resonance across time. The master bedroom is wrapped in deep navy blue, with sharkskin bedside tables, African fabrics, and rare lamps complementing each other, jointly forming a restrained yet rich private atmosphere, allowing the historical context to naturally blend into the current living experience.
