2025-08-13 21:40
Pushing open the glass doors of Madcoffee, the first thing that hits you is the roasted aroma of Guatemalan coffee beans. Then, your gaze is captured by the cascading white concrete wall behind the bar—its texture, like milk foam gently stirred by a coffee spoon, delicate yet possessing a flowing rhythm. This 150-square-meter space is madarq studios own unique answer: what kind of warmth and inspiration will emerge when a design studio, no longer cloistered in an office cubicle, merges with a café?
The bar counter is a solid block of Tenerife marble, its off-white base punctuated by light gray veins, reminiscent of the subtle latte art on a cappuccino. The designer intentionally preserved the natural rough edges of the stone, allowing fingertips to feel the subtle undulations, as if touching not cold stone but the husks of freshly roasted coffee beans. The adjacent table is made of local gray stone, polished to a jade-like smoothness. When a coffee cup is placed on it, it makes a soft, tinkling sound, like raindrops falling on a café window.
The most captivating aspect is the three concrete trees. Three concrete columns from the original building have been preserved, painted matte white, and wrapped with thin wooden strips. The yellow wood grain collides with the white columns, evoking the moment when espresso is poured with milk. The space between the columns is cleverly utilized, with a long table winding along the columns. The warm yellow of the wood diffuses, neutralizing the cold concrete. One guest commented that sipping coffee here feels like falling into a cup of espresso with milk, gently enveloping them.
From the street-facing facade, only a corner of the coffee bar is visible. This half-hidden, almost lingering design creates a deliberate sense of suspense. Once you push the door open, the gray tiles guide your steps forward, and the light shifts accordingly: the glass wall at the entrance lets in unbridled sunlight, but in the studio area, the light suddenly softens. The reticulated ceiling panels act like a fine mesh, filtering the intense light into dappled specks that fall on the designers drawing board, creating a poetic effect reminiscent of a coffee stain.
In the evening, the chandeliers above the bar gradually illuminate. These custom-made fixtures, made of frosted glass, cast a hazy, warm yellow light, perfectly illuminating the baristas latte art strokes without being glaring. The studios desk lamps offer a different perspective. Their slender metal legs resemble stirring rods, focusing their light onto the drawings, sharpening the lines and text. As the buzz of the cafe and the rustling of drawing pens intertwine in the light and shadow, a wondrous harmony emerges—like a spoonful of sugar in black coffee, achieving the perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness.
At 3 p.m., just as a group of chatting guests had departed from the long window table, the designers arrived to sit down with their computers. This custom-made table, with a durable and waterproof surface, can accommodate both coffee cups and design drawings. Hidden sockets beneath the table transform it into a makeshift workspace by plugging in a computer. The stools nearby are also flexible: guests can rest when theyre tired, or designers can pull them over to use as seats while discussing plans.
The most captivating aspect of the space is its breathable quality. Theres no rigid partition between the café and the studio, separated only by a row of low cabinets. These cabinets display madarq studios design models, serving as both a display and a natural divider. While sipping coffee, customers can glimpse the designers debating over the models; when a designer tires, they can simply return with a cup of coffee. This you-me-in layout removes the aloofness of design and imbues the café with a touch of intellectual sophistication. A regular customer remarked that she always loves to work on her projects here. Smelling the coffee and watching them sketch, it seems like my own inspiration is piqued.
Weekend workshops are the busiest time here. Designers bring in samples and materials to share renovation tips with the community. The long tables are rearranged, and a pot of fruit tea is brewed in the coffee area. Children curiously touch the models, while adults drink and ask questions. Sunlight filters through the glass windows, stretching everyones shadows into long, heartwarming paintings.
The designers at madarq studio say they created this space to make their design down-to-earth. Just like a good cup of coffee, its appreciation shouldnt be reserved for professionals; ordinary people can appreciate its quality. Today, its become a third space for nearby residents: students come to do homework, office workers enjoy a latte on their lunch break, and neighbors discuss community events. When design and life meet in this way, Madcoffee becomes more than just a cafe or studio, but a cup of slowly brewed coffee that becomes more delicious with each sip.
Late in the evening, the last customer departed, the barista began cleaning the bar, and the designer continued revising his blueprints under the lamplight. Beyond the glass door, moonlight streamed onto the wall, casting a silvery glow on the white concrete. This space, integrated into the community, demonstrated with its warmth that the best design should be like an everyday cup of coffee—both practical and heartwarming.
