Australian designer David Fewson has lived on a rural plot of land in subtropical New South Wales with his family for many years and has developed a strong emotional attachment to its lush surroundings. His carefully designed Ground House 107R is a concrete residential building, which is quietly located in the beautiful natural landscape environment, providing a quiet oasis for family life and work, and finally becoming a beautiful and artisan holiday place.

The slender shape of the house is horizontally distributed with the drop of the land, connecting with the vegetated roof, like a continuation of the terrain. The slender roof panels are supported by six concrete pillars that wind up the hill like tree trunks. In the design of the garden, David Fewson used native vegetation to create a recessive and immersive feeling. The stone of the dry-stone walls is derived from the site, while the hedges provide a sense of privacy to the house.

The wide open Windows test the load-bearing limits of the concrete structure, and the design focuses on how to integrate the interior with the stream view and bring in northern light. The wide opening Windows add a sense of space to the compact interior, allowing the concrete surfaces of the home to come to life in the changing light throughout the day for unexpected pleasure.

David Fewson sought to rationally arrange the interior decoration with a simple and sophisticated expression, hoping to provide an alternative to the typical homes in the area, with a cosmopolitan feel. The wooden cabinetry was one of the more difficult parts of the construction process, with the paneling finishes made up of hundreds of recessed strips of wood, each cut to length, planed, hand-polished and laid by a cabinetry craftsman. This elaborate process adds texture to the homes island benches, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and floating beds.

David Fewson sourced a unique collection of tiles, furniture and accessories to give its occupants an immersive sensory experience. Soft drapery from ceiling to floor sets off the natural scenery outside the glass window, softening the tough barbarism style of the building; The exquisite collection of furniture evokes a subtle medieval atmosphere.
