Francesc Rife Studio is a design studio from Spain. It was founded by Francesc Rife in Barcelona in 1994. Influenced by minimalism and following familiar traditions related to craft, his work is faithful to materials, focusing on spatial order and geometric proportions.

Between monochrome art and aged steel sculptures, this housing project for the artist Antonia Ferrer becomes a reality. Designed to lead a simple and comfortable life, the studios new proposal seeks to turn the one hundred square meter apartment into an easy place to live.

The space, originally heavily subdivided, now follows an L-shaped open-plan design with large windows and views of the local church. Flooded with natural light, the entrance, living room, dining room and kitchen are visually connected while the two bedrooms at either end are isolated to ensure greater privacy.

Precisely, the control of light through Venetian blinds plays a key role in the design. These elements, in addition to mitigating the sun, make the view become more poetic, while a continuous dance of lights and shadows is projected inward. The roof of the common area, which follows the rhythm of a previous structure, attempts to convert what was initially understood as a defect into a virtue. Through an exercise of repetition, texture and character is added to the project, while the superimposition of a large longitudinal lamp aims to add even more emotion to the composition.

The kitchen has been made of stainless steel, a material that reflects and absorbs light, changing its tone depending on the time of day. Its design frames the passage to the guest room. Both in this route, as well as in the entrance and in the main room, the oak wood slat covering ensures that the doors and closets are fully integrated and the apartment is tidy at all times. Likewise, a dining table made of the same material is a good example of the constructive relationship between furniture and space.
