Homa Vagia is a boutique hotel located in Vagia Serifos, covering 180 square meters, offering three separate accommodations, each with 2 bedrooms and a compact living area. Notably, the outdoor Spaces outstrip the indoor areas, and each unit has a kitchen, living/dining area and private pool. The background of the project is located in the southern Serifos region, which was once marked by extensive mining activities.

This remnant of industrial history, such as abandoned facilities and cobblestone paths, informs the design concept, which aims to revive the underground housing concept. The design incorporates the natural curvature of the site, introducing two angular lines that blend seamlessly with the landscape to form two flat platforms for accommodation placement. Each unit has been strategically rotated to ensure privacy and offer different sea views. The accommodation is accessed via a linear staircase from the roof, symbolically marking the transition to a new ground of habitation below the surface.

The concept is similar to a mining gallery, which is the only light source in the dark. Natural and earthy elements are prevalent throughout HOMA, with earth mineral pigments used in plaster, white polished concrete for furniture, wood and natural rocks framing the building. This aesthetic emphasizes the holistic nature of the design, rooted in the sculptural treatment of the natural soil.

The interplay of voids and solids within the building creates functional and inviting living Spaces illuminated by natural light, reminiscent of the atmospheric quality of a mining gallery. All in all, HOMA embodies a harmonious blend of contemporary design and Serifos rugged landscape, paying tribute to its mining heritage through a thoughtful integration of historic sites and unique underground living experiences.
