Known for working with some of Hollywood’s biggest names, designer Brigette Romanek invites us into her Los Angeles residence. embodying her self-described style and monograph, ‘Livable Lux’.
Designer Brigette Romanek initially designed her Los Angeles home for a like-minded client. When it was mentioned that they were moving to Miami, Brigette immediately said, Ill take it, knowing there wasnt really anything she wanted to change even if the client moved away.Brigette recalls what appealed most about her circa 1929 abode, how the custom details throughout reflect how she and her family live, and the story behind some of her most beloved vintage pieces.
Brigette Romanek
Brigette Romanek was very familiar with this client, and we discussed many important things to them. We were like-minded, with aligned ideas. They liked what I liked, and I even sold them some items from my inventory. So when they said they were moving, I took over this residence.
All the changes made for the family were ones she would have made for herself, so the house was ready to go. The most significant change was the flooring, which transitioned from dark to light. She also noted that when a home has history, you may encounter aspects you love alongside quirks that need to be embraced to maintain the integrity of the home. She appreciates this aspect.
This house, dating back to 1929, is distinguished by its elegant lines, spacious rooms, magnificent staircase, and rich history. The high ceilings in the staircase and foyer, along with the generous room dimensions, imbue the house with a solemn atmosphere. Therefore, I chose to incorporate warm, rich colors, antique furniture, and diverse textures, scaling them proportionally to the room heights to create a unified and cozy living environment.
The style of our home is primarily livable luxury. Our furniture and decor are carefully chosen to be both practical and durable. We appreciate antique furniture and functional fabrics, emphasizing a mix of high and low elements. Each piece of furniture has its own unique story. For example, the Hans Wegner lounge chair has been a classic piece that Ive long desired. Despite searching for it for quite some time, I eventually found one in good condition. Though it was a bit worn, I restored it, and now it feels like an old friend, accompanying us in our daily lives.

The pair of classic Franco Albini PL19 chairs almost slipped past my notice. However, when I noticed their combination with alpaca wool and experienced their comfortable seating, I realized it was a perfect choice. These chairs have become the focal point of our home, unquestionably the right selection.

The neighborhood is conducive to walking, boasting a rich history and a main thoroughfare lined with shops and restaurants, where I can meet friends and neighbors. I can also walk to the weekly farmers market. The history of the homes in the area evokes a sense of Europe for me.

What’s so nice about it is that it’s curated for my family and so everywhere we look, it’s something that has meaning to us.——Brigette Romanek
