Valverde de Campos is a small municipality in the Montes Torozos, just over twenty kilometers from Valladolid. It has just over a hundred inhabitants and decided to invest the surplus produced by wind farms in a service structure that would also serve as the Town Hall, a teleclub - including a cafeteria - a medical center, and a senior care center; a building with barely over three hundred square meters of covered area but connected by plazas and interior streets.

The construction is conceived as a street with arcades. The building solves an urban problem by connecting, at its upper part, an urban space at a dead end with, at its lower part, the main square. Its interior route is carried out through streets - sometimes covered, sometimes supported - and a small intermediate square onto which the doors of the various uses that make up the building open. In this way, the building becomes complex, becoming not only a equipment structure but also a small city; echoing the words of Aldo Van Eyck of a city in a building or a building in a city.

Stone emerges as the tectonic protagonist of the building and as a resource for identity. The municipality chose its history by carving the nearby limestone; from its sources, church, manors, and now its new Town Hall. Identification with the community had to be made from the most significant elements, hoping for their acceptance and reception. The stone serves this function, also chosen and selected from the surroundings of the town. Proximity economy, which is no discovery for the inhabitants who bear the marks of time on their faces. In addition to stone, wood or washed concrete exerts its manifest will for the building to navigate between tradition and modernity.

Like in other municipalities, in the midst of less populated Spain, the construction of a facility transcends the recreational function it may have in cities to become a dynamo against depopulation. Not so much to attract new residents, but rather to prevent further loss. Services, which may be more necessary in rural, abandoned areas, than in large population centers. It is in these towns where construction - it must be called that because it becomes an event - transcends the concept of building to become places to exercise community life. Anything can happen in them, they are supports for hope.
