Our Bakery is a café that makes and sells bread. Our Bakerys popular menu includes dirty chocolate mixed with pastry, chocolate and bread with a texture similar to palmier carré. The rough and sticky bread stimulates the senses of sight and touch.

Bread is made from flour. Flour is kneaded, milled, cut and layered to create a variety of shapes and textures. On the other hand, the materials that make up spaces and buildings are diverse. Wood and stone, glass and metal, and among the various materials, cement and concrete, all started out as a powder like bread. We see concrete being made into various shapes and textures based on its frame and structure in the same environment as bread.

We decided to compose the space entirely out of concrete, mortar and metal. We tried to express a variety of textures with limited materials. Like a black and white photograph, I think monotonous, cold materials capture a more authentic and diverse feel. The simple, rough texture adds to the texture of the bread, giving it a more primitive feel, aiming to focus attention on the action of eating the bread.

When entering the space, the first thing we saw was a large display case in which large blocks of concrete intersected the columns to form a single unit; we wanted these blocks to be naturally placed and used as tables and chairs. We also designed smaller elements and fixtures, such as lamps and metal materials embedded in the columns. It was intended to give a more refined feel by contrasting with the rough mass.

Plaster walls, wood built-ins and terracotta tile floors are used to create a rustic feel in this Santa Monica bakery.

We chose materials that would remain in their pristine condition and would become even more beautiful with age-warm alder for shelving and woodwork, terracotta flooring, plaster walls, and textured limestone counters- the The equivalent of Southern California and the clients native Provence.

A focal point of the interior is the white countertop and glass cabinets for displaying baked goods. A thick limestone base supports the counter and contrasts with the clay tiles below.

The walls are covered in stucco and painted in creamy shades that add to the rustic beauty. A wooden bench was designed to maximize seating in the rectangular space. The bench is also adorned with linen pillows and the metal bench is topped with soft cushions for comfort.
