新素材研究所（NMRL）由当代艺术家杉本博司（Hiroshi Sugimoto）和坂田智之（Tomoyuki Sakakida）共同成立于2008年。与它的名字相反，新素材并不在于“新”，而是研究自古以来的、所谓传统的、具有积极意义的材料和技术，并致力于当代设计手法的重新演绎和文化复兴。

The New Materials Institute is a design firm founded in 2008 by contemporary artists Hiroshi Sugimoto and Tomoyuki Sakakida. Contrary to its name, the Institute for New Materials studies materials and technologies used in ancient, medieval and early modern times and works on their modern reinterpretation and revival.

由新素材研究所（NMRL）设计的M House位于东京，这座清净素雅的住宅在实现传统文化的基础上进行了新的艺术创新，设计师杉本博司借助日本传统元素和旧材料的应用，打造出独具“禅宗”意味的美学空间。

M House, designed by The New Material Institute (NMRL), is located in Tokyo. This quiet and elegant residence is based on the realization of traditional culture and new artistic innovation. Designer Hiroshi Sugimoto uses traditional Japanese elements and old materials to create a unique Zen aesthetic space.

住宅内部大量采用了原始的天然材料，借以展示材料本质的自然肌理，进而呈现出极具舒适的日式氛围。轻盈通透的亚克力和柔软布艺的结合，以及与木质板材的组合，创造出当代设计里不同材质相互替代和使用的可能性。克制的空间用材及谨慎的细节处理，无不契合“禅宗”关于美学的思考和探索。

The interior of the house uses a large amount of original natural materials to show the natural texture of the material essence, thus presenting a very comfortable Japanese atmosphere. The combination of light and transparent acrylic and soft fabric, as well as the combination with wood panels, creates the possibility of intersubstitution and use of different materials in contemporary design. Restrained space materials and careful detail treatment are all in line with Zen thinking and exploration on aesthetics.

Goldwin Beijing

日本著名服装品牌Goldwin在中国开设的第一家旗舰店，新旗舰店位于北京太古里三里屯购物中心，深受国内外顾客的喜欢。Goldwin与新素材研究所（NMRL）之间的密切合作，碰撞出了不一样的火花及意想不到的概念思路，并得以完整的实现。

The first flagship store opened in China by the famous Japanese clothing brand Goldwin is located in Sanlitun Shopping Center, Taikoo Li, Beijing, which is very popular with customers at home and abroad. The close collaboration between Goldwin and the New Material Institute (NMRL) led to different sparks and unexpected conceptual ideas that were fully realized.

Goldwin 非常重视人与自然的连接，因此室内使用了传统的材料，设计遵循着“自然美学”的理念，通过天然材料的纹路肌理，呈现出独特的日式审美的趣味。随着时间的沉淀和推移，所有的材料都将赋予空间一种沉稳的平静之感。

Goldwin attaches great importance to the connection between human and nature, so traditional materials are used in the interior. The design follows the concept of natural aesthetics and presents a unique Japanese aesthetic taste through the texture of natural materials. With the precipitation and passage of time, all materials will give the space a calm sense of calm.
