Edoardo Tresoldi

Edoardo Tresoldi was born in Italy in 1987. He grew up in Milan, where at the age of 9 he started to take lessons from painter and illustrator Mario Straforini, who gave him the pleasure of experimenting different artistic languages and techniques.

Tresoldi Studio, the design studio born from Edoardo Tresoldi’s artistic experience, presents its first artwork Fillmore, a sculpture specifically conceived for Cathédrale restaurant in Moxy East Village hotel, New York City.

Designed by Rockwell Group, the hotel is a tribute to the East Village, one of Manhattan’s most historic and constantly evolving neighborhoods, known as the fertile ground for the 1960’s artistic and musical movements.

Inspired by the iconic structure of Fillmore East, the legendary Lower East Side concert hall active until 1971 that featured The Doors, Janis Joplin, Elton John, and more, Tresoldi Studio designed the ceiling-suspended sculpture over the main room of Cathédrale with an ethereal presence that recalibrates the spatial and temporal perceptions of its visitors.

9月15日，Edoardo Tresoldi在意大利Trentino山谷著名的露天博物馆Arte Sella雕塑公园展出了他的新艺术作品“Simbiosi”。

On September 15th, Edoardo Tresoldi has unveiled Simbiosi, his new site-specific artwork for Arte Sella sculpture park, the renowned open air museum in Italy’s Trentino Valley.

三十多年来，Arte Sella通过Eduardo Souto de Moura、Kengo Kuma、Michele de Lucchi和Ettore Sottsass等国际知名艺术家和建筑师的作品将自然和艺术交织在一起。

For over thirty years, Arte Sella has intertwined Nature and Art thanks to artworks by internationally acclaimed artists and architects such as Eduardo Souto de Moura, Kengo Kuma, Michele De Lucchi, and Ettore Sottsass.

Badly damaged by the last winter’s storm, Arte Sella has managed to reconstruct most of the artworks and paths, and to reopen to the public in last Spring. Tresoldi’s research, focused on the experiential perception of the space and the relationship with the landscape’s elements, moves ahead through a sculptural and emotional interpenetration between architecture and nature.

“Simbiosi” is a turning point in the Italian artist’s evolution: for the first time, Tresoldi hybridizes the transparency of the Absent Matter, expressed through the wire mesh, with the materiality of local stones.

“Simbiosi”完全向天空开放，高度达到5米，构成了一个休息和沉思的空间，一个悬挂在建筑、自然和时间维度之间的废墟。

Entirely open towards the sky and reaching a height of 5 meters, Simbiosi composes a space of rest and contemplation, a ruin suspended between architecture, nature and temporal dimension.

The artwork seems to challenge the force of gravity, like a body in suspension that levitates between consciousness and unconsciousness, between the material and immaterial world.
