Karimoku x Norm Architects

Norm Architects have designed a series of furniture for an interior renovation project in Tokyo. The furniture is designed in collaboration with Japan’s largest wooden furniture manufacturer, Karimoku, with Keiji Ashizawa Design and Torafu Architects having also participated in the workshops, designing furniture for specific spaces, including a private home and office space.

2018年中，我们为东京的一个室内改造项目设计了一系列家具。这些家具是与日本最大的木制家具制造商Karimoku合作设计的，其中Keiji Ashizawa Design和Torafu Architects也参加了研讨会，一起为私人住宅，办公空间等特定空间设计家具。

Karimoku is the largest wooden furniture manufacturer in Japan. Founded in 1940, Karimokuwas established in Chita-gun, Aichi Prefecture as Kariya TimberIndustry in 1947. Originally a producer of weaving machines and wooden parts for exported furniture, Karimoku, through the use of high-precision processing technology and an expert knowledge of materials, has been producing domestic furniture since 1962. Every single piece of furniture and wood product is created in a vast factory of about 13,000 square meters full of the latest machines and craftsmen. There is no wooden product they cannot make. It’s truly wonderland of craftsmanship.

Karimoku是日本最大的木制家具制造商，成立于1940年，并于1947年在爱知县知多郡建立“刈谷木材工業株式会社”。Karimoku最初是出口家具织机和木制零件的生产商，后通过使用高精度加工技术和材料专业知识，自1962年以来一直生产家用家具。每件家具和木制品都是在一个约13,000平方米的大型工厂中创造出来的，里面装满了最新的机器和工匠。在这个手工艺的仙境里，没有他们无法制造的木制品。

During the factory workshop, designers and manufacturers gathered around each prototype, sharing input and opinions in order for solutions to be thought out in collaboration.

Japan and Denmark share traditions in their approach to furniture design and cabinetry, and the Karimoku collaboration was an opportunity to investigate that, and learn and benefit from each other.

The result of the Karimoku x Norm Architects collaboration is a series of functional, high quality wooden furniture that speak with their surroundings rather than make a statement, carrying references to both Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics and design traditions.

Karimoku x Norm Architects合作的结果是一系列具有功能性的高品质木制家具的诞生，通过日本和斯堪的纳维亚美学及设计传统与周围环境对话。

Two-Seater Sofa

The Hinoki wood sofa boasts clear references totraditional Japanese architecture methods as well as democratic Danish furniture from the 50’s. All elements are on display, with the armrest continuing along the backrest of the sofa and thereby creating a shelf-like element, increasing functionality and making it suitable for a small home.

Hinoki木沙发参考了传统的日本建筑方法以及50年代的民主丹麦家具。所有元素都被展示出来，扶手沿着沙发的靠背延续，从而形成一个类似货架的元素，增加了功能性，使其适合小型家庭。

Coffee table

The slight but precise spacing between each wooden element in this coffee table is inspired by Japanese temples, shrines and traditional architecture, allowing the light to travel through beautifully. The stone top carries references to the minimalist designs of famous Danish designer Poul Kjærholm.

这款咖啡桌中每个木质元素之间细微但精确的间距设计启发于日本的寺庙，神社和传统建筑：让光线美丽地穿透。石材桌面灵感来自丹麦著名设计师Poul Kjærholm的极简主义设计。

Dining Chair

A hybrid between the Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics emerged when working on the dining chair, using existing parts foundin the factories of Karimoku. The result is a classic, minimal piece of furniture with a warm look.

当使用Karimoku工厂现有的零件在设计餐椅时，出现了日本和斯堪的纳维亚美学的混合体，诞生出这款经典，简约而又温暖的家具。

Dining Table

Playing with the dimensions of the dining table, we’ve experimented with the balance between lightness and heaviness, making it paper-thin when seen from some angles and more robust from others, emphasizing the materials.

在研究餐桌的尺寸时，我们尝试了轻盈和沉重之间的平衡，从某些角度看它是如同纸张般薄的，而从另外一些角度看它则更加稳重，强调出材料的质感。
