As one of the few Class A office buildings in Rio de Janeiro, Vista Mauá lends a distinct façade and visual profile to a blossoming district of the city, ultimately contributing to its burgeoning economic growth.Vista Mauá contributes to the drastic redevelopment of Rio de Janerio’s port area. Under the Porto Maravilha master plan, the formerly dilapidated, warehouse district has become a thriving new cultural and commercial center for the city. The angular, dense urban context created a challenge for the new tower, located on an in-fill site and limited on all four sides by two existing office buildings and two streets. Incorporated into the ground floor is a pass-through, the porte-cochere entrance offers a luxurious and innovative automotive entrance to the building’s open lobby, while keeping the street-level façade continuous and directly connected to the sidewalk.Facing Guanabara Bay to the north and the Sugar Loaf to the south, the building rises above its neighbors to offer sweeping views of the bay and the “Marvelous City.” The tower’s vertically faceted façade is articulated to redirect views across the bay and the city at large, taking full advantage of its scenic location within Rio de Janeiro. Clad in highly reflective glass, the façade form provides pedestrians with an intricate mirror showcasing the surrounding bustle of the street, framed by the surrounding natural beauty.Vista Mauá raises the mark for future commercial buildings in Rio de Janeiro, serving as a model for further development. The first building in Rio to achieve LEED Gold, the building is currently seen as a leader in sustainable design in the city.
