In occasion of the Milan Design Week 2019, Studio Urquiola curates the exhibition design “New Sculptural Presence” in Nilufar Gallery Depot.
The space hosting the exhibition has a strong industrial character and it is a perfect setting for an exhibition about creativity, novelties and innovation in the design field. The three young sculptors presenting their ceramic work are Nao Matsunaga, Irina Razumovskaya and Jonathan Trayte. The concept behind the installation is to play with light and flexible elements like screens to lead visitors through the space. To best emphasize the exhibition’s temporality, the concept of Time and subsequently the actual theme of Recycling were incorporated in the project in the form of material selection. In fact, the perforated panels used as the various area’s dividers have been intended to be kept for future exhibitions in the space. These panels were purposefully left neutral and of an unintrusive color to better denote the ceramic of the art pieces exposed, whereas the perforations help to maintain transparency and visual continuity throughout the space.
