Most of the trees are located along the street side and can all be retained by moving the building volumes to the back. This creates a meandering driveway that opens different perspectives onto the house for the approaching resident or visitor. The clients had no desire for a classical garden with a great lawn area.

In addition, the design also evinces a number of distinctly Japanese influences. The house is raised a few steps above ground level, creating a floating effect that is heightened by means of a wooden platform that runs around the circumference of the house. Part of the living space floats above a natural pond, creating an ultimate zen experience.
