The Gujarat Artist Retreat is an art space located in a lush garden in Gujarat designed to provide an artist with a space for living, contemplation, meditation and art production.

The design comprises four grey brick cubes that each houses a distinct programme; to maximise the relationship between the cubes’ interiors and the natural environment, only the living space is fully enclosed and has access to electricity and water. Interstitial spaces are distributed around the blocks, providing shelter, natural illumination and cross-ventilation. Perforations on the cubes’ walls allow light to penetrate and imbue the spaces with an ephemeral and spiritual quality.
