“Remezzo” was created in a two-storied contemporary building which is part of the new building complex that was raised in the old port of Limassol. The project regards a new dining space, an “all day café-restaurant”. The building has direct view to the small port, the sea, and the central entrance of the port, which is located above the central axis that connects the old city of Limassol with the old port.

The design concept is developed through the two floors of the building; on the ground floor which is directly accessible to the outdoor space and on the first floor which is accessible to a spacious roofed terrace. The main purpose of the project was the creation of a place with a continuous “aesthetic flow” in and outside, as most of the interior vertical surfaces are transparent and as a result they allow the extension of users’ visual field from the interior to the exterior space and vice versa without any particular obstacles.
设计理念是通过建筑的两层来开发的；在地面上，可直接进入室外空间，在一楼，可进入宽敞的屋顶露台。该项目的主要目的是在内部和外部创建一个连续“审美流”的地方，因为大部分内部垂直表面是透明的，因此，它们允许用户从内部扩展到外部空间，反之亦然，而没有任何特定的障碍。

In the overall approach of the design process, both inside and outside, there have been various restrictions; some of the building’s elements had to be maintained, such as the marble floor, the plasterboard ceilings in their biggest part, the external doors and windows, the staircase with their stainless steel handrails and several other details. Furthermore, the usable walls were few due to the big external openings as well as interior doors of the building that couldn’t be modified.

Two major factors from which the concept was inspired have been the continuous flow of people passing by in front of the building, in combination with its location along the newly constructed old port of Limassol. The attempt was focused on the consolidation of the exterior with the interior while still maintaining the distinguishable uses of the two different areas. Starting from the ground floor, a low wooden pedestal is placed in the middle of the cafeteria, from the level of which, a wooden linear grid is raised in order to cover it, while wrapped green ivy falls onto the central tables that have been put on the pedestal. The central wooden composition in the ground floor gives the impression that the wooden volume is decomposing by the power of the wind and of the vegetation that passes through it. The intension of the project has been to create a feeling of being in some kind of a central town square where around it a small city market unfolds. Marble shelves full of candies in the background wall are roofed by a wooden frame covered by rattan sheets in order to reproduce the shelves of a patisserie or a candy store and at the same time predispose clients of the freshness and quality of the products of the café - restaurant. On the other hand, the bar, covered by backlit perforated oak wood sheets and wide slabs of white marble, completes the small “neighborhood” of the ground-floor; a neighborhood of high quality, simplicity, colors and sweetness. Around the central pedestal, behind the wooden vertical slats that were harmonically placed against the wall and the windows, there is a black and white wallpaper of sketches that depict people of all ages passing by, expressing their joy and transferring their liveliness and positive energy into the space.

The first floor of the store was treated in a similar way. Key element for the development of the top floor has been the spacious terrace, which has direct visual contact towards the sea and the small port. As on the ground floor, white marble and oak wood are the basic construction materials along with vegetation through the use of green ivy that climbs around the metal columns of the terrace in order to bring into balance the coldness of the white metallic structure of the building and the liveliness of the sea. The colors that have been used, not only on the fabrics, but also in the form of the exposed products on the shelves of the furniture complete the “colorful”, delicious and energetic atmosphere of “Remezzo” and in combination with the surfaces of the oak wood bring warmness into the cold shell of the white building.
