Into the Wild is an über-modern residential project on 2.3 acres of undeveloped land in the heart of Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. The house was designed by Acre Architects in close collaboration with the homeowners – Judith Mackin and Robert Moore from Tuck Studio.
It is hard to imagine that a 2.3 acre lot in the core of the city overlooking a vista that takes in Saint John from East to West would remain vacant for over 25 years. The design explores bringing a contemporary vision to a truly wild city site. Featuring a green roof and maximizing daylight throughout the house, Into the Wild invites the outdoors to be part of the house.
The main siding and wood flooring will be built out of reclaimed snow fences that have developed a rusted patina that echos the rock found on the site. The corten weathering steel on the garage only heightens this visible mineral palette that also grounds the project in the industrial port city where it calls home. The Acre is excited to announce ground has broken on their first residential project in Saint John.
