Situated on the western shore of Oberuckersee lake, Uckermark region, Germany, Rote Scheune (Red Barn) is an attractive holiday destination. Built in 1900, this red barn was discovered and purchased by the owners many years ago, being attracted by the peace and beauty of the place, by the old chestnut trees and the generous garden. When they decided to renovate it, the barn has not been used for more than 20 years. Most of the building was a stable for sheep and cows. In the right side, the old barn was divided into small rooms for the farmer’s family and on the upper level there was a room to smoke meat and a facility for raising pigeons.
The owners have turned to the berliner architect Thomas Kroger to convert the barn into a villa for the family and separately, completed with a guest house. Preserving the original architecture and all the elements that define the rustic, Thomas Kroger has transformed elegantly the interior opting for the best combination: wood and white paint. The old barn with the same external appearance, offers a big surprise when you step into the interior. The following photos show us what has resulted after a work that took almost four years and how was the old barn “brought back to life”!
