The Spanish-born design goddess Patricia Urquiola excels at blending the past withmodernity, and most likes to use innovative materials, colorful designs, openwork carvings, etc., to tell the story about design.
PatriciaUrquiolas house is located on the cape of the eastern shore, offering stunningviews of the island: bright shades of the sea, small coves, cliffs and desertedbeaches meet the greenery of the pine forest, which outlines the hillylandscape. The building seems to be in motion. Such an illusion is created byasymmetrical blocks interconnected at different levels. Somewhere by steps, somewhere by long corridors, patios and open stairs leading to terraces on flatroofs.
The work ofthe architect Josep Lluis Sert i López also had an undoubtedinfluence on me. Everyone remembers his Joan Miro Foundation in Barcelona, but I amabsolutely fascinated by his lesser-known buildings here in Ibiza. These areexamples of pure, unadorned cubic architecture that enter into dialogue withthe local context and craftsmanship of local artisans.
Huge panoramicwindows alternate with stone “bars”, the light passing through them becomessomething magical. “I tried to get rid of all the signs of monumentality,” thedesigner continues. - Small windows give lightness to the walls due to the playof light and shadow. Architectural blocks and interior spaces have the rightproportions, full of dignity and serenity - these are the inherent qualities ofIbiza country architecture. ” The volumes of the villa are inscribed in theMediterranean landscape. Different openings, small and large windows, functional blinds enliven the architecture, making it dynamic and habitableboth inside and outside the building.
The interiormatches the exterior: intimate private spaces adjoin the guest areas with a swimmingpool and terraces, protected by reed canopies. In the interior design, brightsamples of furniture designed by Urquiola and fabrics with elements ofdecorative and applied art were used. But the real surprise is the roofterraces, which invite guests and owners to enjoy the true beauty of the islandand once again confess their love to it.

The space wasinspired by the colours of the car companys M8 Gran Coupe concept car, whichaccording to BMW "recalls the colour gradients of the mystic and poeticNorthern Lights".
Urquiola usedher surface design to translate, extremely intuitively, the apparentlyfractured ice surface, green colour – which appears to change in tone againstdifferent lights – and Northern Lights, The space has cars and lounge areas, featuring original artworks by Urquiola, on top of a bespoke floor.
"I likedthe idea of applying a fresh technique to create what you might call newterritory within the space," explained Urquiola."I used these filtersin the metal mass [of the building] to incorporate a kind of movement. It was atotally new and exciting way of thinking about a space for me."
