Text description provided by the architects. The existing structures of Terminal 2 were constructed in line with a modular arrangement concept typical in the Seventies. Under this concept, the building of 3 independently operated terminals was planned diagonally arranged around a common centre.

Terminal 2A built in 1984 shows well the clear design philosophy of the complex organized by a diagonal centre-line. While the layout of Terminal 2B stands for the basic concept, its plan construction – keeping the diagonal arrangement, though – breaks with the clear symmetry at several points.

The project basic concept was that the extension should be accomplished in the area of the existing structures or connected directly to them in a way, that the new implemented building ensures the complete union of the two former terminals. Consequently, design methodology breaks away with the modular system and, on the contrary: it attempts the total integration of the two modules. Besides maintaining main entrances, the new hall to be built between the existing structures is in focus. The general perspective will be then organized around this central component.

新的大厅或休息室-“天庭”-不仅将决定建筑群的外部外观,也将决定其内部空间,并将两个模块终端连接成一个有机单元。建筑物这一部分的陆面边界是由目前的出发侧立面和交通桥形成的。在飞机一侧,建筑与目前的2A和2B的正面线相交,相距21米。跨度近70m的钢屋面结构只能沿这两条边界线支撑。屋面结构的形式反映了新码头的内部功能安排和运行。第二个封闭屋顶表面在陆地上弯曲-尽管其尺寸不同-加强了现有两个客运大厅及其主要入口的功能重要性。
The new hall or lounge - the "SkyCourt" - will determine not only the external appearance of the complex, but its internal spaces too, and will conjoin the two modular terminals into one organic unit. The landside boundaries of this part of the building are formed by the present departure-side facade and the traffic bridge. On airside the building overlaps the line of the present facade of 2A and 2B by 21 m. The steel roof structure with almost 70 m span will be supported along these two boundary lines only. The form of the roof structure reflects the internal functional arrangement and operation of the new Terminal. The two-third closed roof surface curving down at landside -despite of its dimensions- strengthens the functional importance of the two existing passenger halls and their main entrances.

The SkyCourt will be an emblem of the new building complex both in its external and internal appearance providing international rank to the Airport. The most important part of the building is the two-storied passenger hall, which will be crossed by both departing and transfer passengers. After taking over their boarding card and the security check, passengers will enter the central part of SkyCourt, which besides the experience of space gives place to shops and commercial units on large area. Rest and waiting areas was provided on spacious surfaces on departure level as well. Restaurants and lounges of individual airlines were built on the Mezzanine.

在进一步的发展阶段,将进行2A和2B航站楼的机场扩建工程,并将与码头垂直的码头完工,使乘客能够通过两侧10至10个新登机口直接登机。
