Text description provided by the architects. This office space by Min | Day had a conservative budget, but creative client. The project, titled Pocket Gems, is an equally creative solution for the mobile gaming company’s interior wants, needs, and restraints. More after the break.

The office space is atypical of most standard offices, and is flexible to the gaming company’s less rigid workspace. Modular desks sit in a central open space. Other types of program are situated along the outline of the rectangular floor plan, but are equally open with just glass as a barrier.

Min | Day worked with the gaming company’s atypical program and enhanced their differences from other offices. Instead of a lobby, Pocket Gems greets visitors with a casual gaming lounge. The space holds a large screen television with gaming consoles and seating for both visitors and employees to enjoy. Conference rooms are enclosed in glass, and a large kitchen also serves as an informal meeting room.

 Aerial Perspective

The visual impact of Pocket Gems is tune with the office’s line of work. Strong colors, patterns, and lighting solutions are on display and essential to the space. A pattern developed through parametric software is created on the floor with carpet tiles and is indicative of the programmatic layout of the entire space. The walls are painted red, blue, and white, with the white walls being dry erase board material for working through problems and ideas. Two large existing skylights are taken advantage of, and an added grid of exposed diagonal lights hang alongside an exposed wooden structure.

Pocket Gems was able to fulfill the expectations of the gaming company, and remain within their budget through clever solutions. The complex carpet pattern was made of inexpensive standard carpet tiles, and laid in the pattern developed by Min | Day. The resulting space has a strong, yet relaxed character to correspond with the gaming office employees who work there.
