Text description provided by the architects. House Bergé is a transformation of a typical end 70ies split level villa into a contemporary residence. An additional storey has been built on top of the north part of the house to increase the floor area. In combination with an extension at ground level the house now provides more space for the requirements of the family and their guests.

The former 70ies character has been developed further with the result of an internal triple height staircase and a view diagonally through the house by continuing the split level idea up to the additional 2nd floor. The internal open space serves as communication zone while the private/ intimate spaces like bed- and bathrooms are clearly separated.

The shape of the building is accordingly transformed into a contemporary form with a folded roof structure. The former wooden curtain wall in the 1st and 2nd floor becomes a newly designed fully insulated wall with a black waterproofed background layer and a front layer via thin vertical timber stripes on an irregular grid.

The surface of these fins is so called “mineralised”, a special mineral based coating has been applied which is extremely weather resistant but in the same time water vapour permeable to maximise the lifespan of the façade.

The façade has been developed, engineered, manufactured and installed by KHBT themselves. The base of the house has been kept and completed in exposed brickwork that the building appears as a new contemporary structure resting on the existing base.
