The building’s design blends multi-colored fiber reinforced cementitious panels, standing seam zinc siding, and stucco with expansive windows that provide views and flood the higher education facility with natural light. Spacious exterior balconies and courtyards provide venues for outdoor activity and promote interaction among faculty, staff, students and visitors.

Large operable glass doors and windows take advantage of San Diego’s climate to provide natural ventilation and daylight to the majority of interior spaces and provide occupant flexibility for indoor / outdoor meeting and gathering space. Other measures incorporated to achieve the Client’s sustainability goals include the use of highly efficient mechanical and lighting systems that exceed state efficiency standards by 30%, also an over 40% reduction in water use through the use of ultra low flow fixtures and water efficient landscaping, as well as an underground drywell for treating storm water on-site.
