Text description provided by the architects. A odd-looking site located in the middle of a residential area has been treated like a blind spot in this area. Once it was used for a field, and then for a fish farm. However it hasn't been used for a residential purpose for a long time. Houses surrounding the site have windows facing the site. When planning, it was crucial to preserve the privacy of clients while providing an open atmosphere. To that end, the first floor and second floor are connected by a spiraling corridor facing a courtyard, which limits the visibility from outside and serve to preserve the privacy. Its living space is open toward a courtyard which is in the middle of this house as a comfortable “outside space.” Surrounding the courtyard is the spiraling corridor, porch, dinning, kitchen, stairs, bedroom, entrance, and garage. As you walk up a corridor, a face of the house changes. Each space has its own characteristics, therefore they are very flexible and grow into a house with a rich variety depending on how it's used.

It is worth mentioning that in this house, each space such as an entrance or garage is built in relation to a covered alley and the courtyard so that the outside gradually blends into the inside from the entrance to the garage through a covered alley, from the garage to the living space or porch through the courtyard. This provides a comfortable living structure in such heavy-snow regions with low temperatures as Toyama.
