Text description provided by the architects. Here we introduce a design plan of the two-family residence in Yamagata prefecture.

 Floor Plan

它由一层的老房子，一栋两层的房子给年轻的家庭，和一间日本式的房间，在这些房子之间有一个露台。两边房屋的屋顶连成一片，虽然它们的高度并不相等。

It is composed of a one-story house for elder family, a two-story house for younger family, and a japanese style room with a terrace between those houses. The roofs of houses of both sides smoothly connected, although their heights are not equal.

考虑到雪檐和雪破坏的影响，我们将其屋顶和墙壁与半钢板无缝连接起来，而暴露在每个房间中的桦木胶合板的墙壁支撑着厚重的雪。

Considering the effects of snow cornice and snow damages, we connect its roof and walls seamlessly with galvalume steel sheets, and the walls which expose birch plywoods in each room support the heavy weight of snow.

Although this is kind of the so-called independent type two-family residence, in which a set of wet area is installed in each house, the japanese style room is placed in between; while the japanese style room is separated in two for each of the families by default, it can also be connected for annual ceremonies.
