Text description provided by the architects. The Botanical Garden Munich, with an area of 21.20 hectares and over 350,000 visitors a year, is one of the most important botanical gardens in the world. Around 16,000 plant species are cultivated here. In May 2014, the Botanical Garden celebrated its 100th anniversary at its site in Munich-Nymphenburg. On this occasion the new entrance building at the Menzinger Straße was opened solemnly.

The largely glazed pavilion, which houses on the ground floor the Ticket Sales, the Information Center, the Museum Store, as well as the preperation area for events in the neighboring winter hall, now offers visitors a reasonable welcome.

With its transparent façade the building takes a back seat. The glass panels are printed with designs from the Botanical Garden which produces changing shadows in the interior depending on the light. The welcoming building envelope draws the visitor into the interior and the cantilevering rooftops define the weather-protected access areas.

In addition to the uses on the ground floor the safe deposit boxes, the toilets as well as technology and facilities were provided in the basement.
