Text description provided by the architects. Located in the center of Milan, Kengo Kuma's design for Camper's Camper Together project uses a very simple generative system in a complex way. The shelves which line the walls of the store are based on a square grid just wide enough to fit a pair of shoes, but by selectively removing sections of the grid, abstract compositions are made which give the interior a subtle variety. The material palette of just two materials - the raw plywood shelves and natural stone floor - adds to this theme of complexity through simplicity.
