Text description provided by the architects. We would like to present you our reconstruction project of a loft space into a private residence in a historic tenement building, built in the late nineteenth century.
Floor Plan
Both the building and its surrounding district are located in a historic preservation zone. The tenement is located along a narrow residential street, and includes four floors, an attic, and a cellar.

Such a space requires an individualized approach, as well as the application of unusual solutions. We sought to maintain each available inch of usable area and volume, but at the same time created a new story in the space.
We kept the open concept feel of the space while highlighting key elements and details.

Among them you can find the original roof supports, extending to the full original height of the rooms. These exposed wooden elements give the interior its flavour, and in our opinion it highlights the uniqueness of the space. Although we created a new function for the space, the look and feel was very much influenced and shaped by the original loft and the roof construction.

Multiple windows spaced throughout provide natural sunlight in all of the rooms, complemented by the white walls and ceilings, giving the apartment a bright feel. Lit by the skylight, the open kitchen is a link between the private retreat of the owners and the living and guest areas. The large kitchen comes with a huge island, making it a great place to cook or to spend time relaxing in the hammock. We also took inspiration from the existing brickwork, and it played a major rol in the design. We used it on the knee walls, as well as along the entire back wall - emphasizing the length of the apartment.
The living room is set off to the side of the main room, but does not feel separated from it. This is the perfect place to relax with friends in comfortable seating or to watch TV.

A full bathroom, shared with guests and visitors, includes a wash basin, lavatory, and stand up shower. Another full bath is provided in the master bedroom. The idea of an open bathtub removes the barriers between these spaces. The bathtub is located in a bay window, providing light and a little head room, and has easy access to the wardrobe located nearby. Next to this we have additional spaces with the lavatory and another stand up shower.
The flooring is a mix of the extant pine wood and very dark gres tiles with an interesting and irregular surface. We kept the interiors in earthy tones, that together with the timeless whiteness present themselves the prettiest.

Product Description. We wanted to keep the original character of the tenement. That is why one of the most important materials we used were the original brickwork and pine flooring.
